Kopete створено з метою надати у розпорядження користувачів загальний і простий у користуванні інтерфейс для роботи з популярними системами миттєвого обміну повідомленнями, а також надання розробникам спрощених можливостей щодо написання додатків для підтримки нових протоколів.

All protocols are plugins and allow modular installation, configuration, and usage without the main application knowing anything about the plugin being loaded.
