How to get Kontact
Since Kontact is written in portable Qt technology, it is available on many different operating systems:
GNU/Linux
Kontact is available in all major GNU/Linux distributions. Please use the package manager or software center of your distribution to install it.
Windows

Komponenten
KDE Kontact supports various groupware servers. When using these servers your workgroup has access to features like shared email folders, group task lists, calendar sharing, central address books and meeting scheduling.
Kontact consists of the Kontact PIM back end and the graphical applications connecting to the back end. Special 'agents' (say a facebook agent) are employed to get new data in and merge it in the existing data set (for example contacts, news). Due to the clean infrastructure new agents are easy to develop.

Migrieren Ihres Setup auf eine neue Distribution
In KMail klicken Sie mit der rechten Maustaste auf ihren Posteingang und wählen Sie Eigenschaften. Gehen Sie auf das Register Wartung und schauen Sie sich den Speicherort an. Er hat entweder .kde4 oder .kde im Pfad.
Ersetzen Sie den entsprechenden Pfad unten.
Sie benötigen die folgenden Konfigurationsdateien:
- .kde4/share/config/emaildefaults
- .kde4/share/config/emailidentities
- .kde4/share/config/kmail.eventsrc
- .kde4/share/config/kmailrc
- .kde4/share/config/kaddressbookrc
- .kde4/share/config/kresources/contact
- .kde4/share/config/korgacrc
- .kde4/share/config/korganizerrc
- .kde4/share/config/knotesrc
- .kde4/share/config/mailtransports
und die folgenden Verzeichnisse:

Wenn Sie innerhalb von Kontact Akregator verwenden, benötigen Sie auch:

und das ganze .kde4/share/apps/akregator Verzeichnis.
Natürlich ist der einfachste Weg, dass ganze Home-Verzeichnis zu behalten. 
Nur ein Wort der Warnung. Falls die Namensgebung für die Verzeichnisse unterschiedlich zwischen den Desktops oder den beiden Versionen ihrer Distribution ist, wird dies nicht funktionieren, da es Verweise auf die Verzeichnisse innerhalb der Konfigurationsdateien gibt. Dies bedeutet, dass wenn die Dateien in einem .kde Verzeichnis waren Sie diese nicht einfach in ein .kde4 Verzeichnis tun können, ohne die Verweise in den Konfigurationsdateien zu bearbeiten.
Ausblenden der Kontact Seitenleiste
Auf kleinen Bildschirmen möchten Sie vielleicht den Platz nutzen, den die Kontact Seitenleiste beansprucht. Sie können diese mit einer (änderbaren) Werkzeugleiste ersetzen:
- Drag the left panel closed using the splitter between it and the main panel, job done. Don't forget to enable Navigator in every component.
Aktivierung der SOCKS-Unterstützung in KMail und KNode
Im Gegensatz zu KDE 3, hat KDE 4 noch keine integrierte SOCKS Unterstützung. Allerdings ist es noch immer möglich auf relativ einfache Weise KMail und KNode einen SOCKS Proxy verwenden zu lassen. Verwenden Sie dazu Proxychains oder ein ähnliches Werkzeug wie Tsocks oder Socksify. Unter der Annahme, dass Proxychains korrekt installiert und konfiguriert ist, ist alles was Sie tun müssen ein Terminal (z.B. Konsole) zu öffnen und folgendes einzugeben:
Sie müssen noch nicht einmal KMail / KNode neu starten! (Allerdings müssen Sie den obigen Befehl jedes Mal eingeben, wenn Sie eine neue KDE Sitzung starten).
