The KDE ecosystem has existed for a long period of time and in that time many apps have been created that have either become unmaintained or have been superseded.

This sections documents some of the historical apps, preserving the information for archival and educational purposes.

None of the information in this section should be considered a tutorial. We recommend using the modern equivalent for superseded apps.

Author
Calligra Author was a refined version of Words, specifically for authors of novels and textbooks, with the additional tools required by them combined with distraction-free screen.
Blogilo
Blogilo was a blogging client, focused on simplicity and usability.
Braindump
Braindump was an open source tool to dump and organize the content of your brain (ideas, drawings, images, texts…) to your computer.
Gluon
Gluon was a game engine.
Homerun
Homerun was a full screen app launcher for the KDE 4 series with content organized in tabs.
Jovie
Jovie was a text-to-speech system.
KChart
KChart was the charting tool from KOffice and is still the charting tool for Calligra. In older versions, KChart was a standalone application, but now both it and KGantt are constituent parts of the KDiagram library also used by other KDE applications.
KColorEdit
KColorEdit was a tool for creating color pallets.
Kivio
Kivio was an application for creating diagrams and flowcharts.
Kopete
Kopete was a flexible and extendable multi-protocol instant messaging system.
KPDF
KPDF was written for KDE 3 and was one of the earliest free, libre, open source applications to successfully view and print PDF files.
KPlato
KPlato is a historical application for creating Gantt charts, which has been replaced by Plan, part of the Calligra suite.
KMess
KMess was an alternative MSN/Windows Live Messenger client for Linux.
KWord
KWord was the historical KDE word processor, which has been replaced by Words, part of the Calligra suite.
Nepomuk
Nepomuk was the predecessor to Baloo.
