I'm annew - aka Anne Wilson. I'm from Yorkshire, in the north of England, and I spend waayyyy too much time working on KDE :-) My interest has long been on user support, so this wiki is the natural extension of that.

Apart from providing support to all family members for their computing problems, I'm interested in gardening, sewing and embroidery, music and reading. In truth, though, little time goes on any of those except reading, these days.

The KMail Welcome Screen
KMail is the email component of Kontact, the integrated personal information manager of KDE.

For KWIN -

You want an application to launch in the same screen position every time

Sometimes the screen position of an application is vital to your comfort, so use the flexibility of kwin to make sure it's always where you want it.

Drag the window to where you want it, then right-click on the title-bar and select Configure Window Behavior. The section you want is Window-Specific. Click New, and enter a description in the top line. Click the button marked Detect Window Properties and your cursor will become a cross-hair. Click on the window that you want to fix. If the click has registered a dialog box will appear, showing the detected settings. Accept that. Go to the Geometry tab and you should see the window's position and size, albeit greyed out. Tag those two settings, and select Remember from the combi-box. OK that screen and returns to the previous screen. Click Apply, and you are finished. OK.

One caveat - if you have set things this way but decide that you want to change things, you may find that your new settings don't seem to work. It seems better to delete the entry and make a new one.
