Recreational User tasks
- Play song, album or playlist. This could include playing a favorite or exploring to find something new.
- Play movie, tv show or video clip. This could include playing a favorite or exploring to find something new.
- Browse photographs. This includes browsing photographs individually or shared with friends and family (in-person or remote).
- Read a book.
- Read news.
- Communicate with friends and family. Doesn't matter if this is via email, IM, video call, social media or whatever
- Play a game. This includes single player or multiplayer games.
- Shop for goods or services. Shopping is defined here to mean finding and comparing good or services, regardless of the price (free, freemium, subscription, one-time purchase) of good or service. It might be worth breaking this down into:
- Goods or services whose consumption depends on the functions of the OS. e.g. applications, appearance themes, songs, movies, ebooks, etc.
- Goods or services whose consumption does not depend on the OS. e.g. food, plane tickets, restaurant reservations, etc.
- Track progress on a hobby project. This might include, for example, an art project, or a poetry chapbook, or a remote control airplane. It could also include a hobby project shared with friends.
- Customize environment to express personality.
Decision Maker tasks
- Communicate with customers. The medium of communication includes email, IM, video conference, etc.
- Communicate with staff. The medium of communication includes email, IM, video conference, etc.
- Manage staff and customer access to privileged information. This includes staff account privileges, storing information in a secure location, being able to share information with certain groups of people and not others.
- Manage projects. This includes determining project schedule and cost.
- Read market news.
Office Worker tasks

- Track assignments. This includes todo lists, due dates, reminders, task progress, etc.
- Take notes This includes taking notes from formal or informal meetings, task notes, etc.
- Conduct meetings or give a report or presentation. This includes in-person or remote settings.
- Read job-related news. This includes news, technical publications and the like.

Student tasks
- Track assignments.
- Take notes. This includes not just text notes, but pictures, maybe sound.
- Review notes and information for exams.
- Create reports or presentations.
- Conduct quantitative or qualitative analyses.
- Write programs, scripts, etc. This might be for a computer science class or for another class using programming as a tool to accomplish something else (e.g. calibrate an instrument, automate readings, capture data at precise time intervals, etc.)
- Communicate with classmates, teachers and potential employers.

- Administer shared system resources for family members.
